I have been using a free tool, called LibraryThing, to track my books. I’ve found it to be a very easy to use tool that allows you to easily maintain a list of books in your library. They make it very easy to add a book to your online library index, as you simply type in a title of a book and the search pulls up information that you can load into your library, including a picture of the book cover. And then you have the option of editing, to include additional information such as your personal review and rating.
It is also easy to search books that you may want to read. While I’ve been using it for quilting books, it works for just about any type of book you may be interested in. And you can read reviews by others. For example, I was interested in the book “Collaborate Again” and was able to quickly pull up info using LibraryThing, which also provided a review from another quilter.
There is also a widget for bloggers to link their libraries to their blogs. You may have noticed I have this widget on the right hand side of my blog.
And, you can also provide a link to non-LibraryThing users if you wish to share information with others. http://www.librarything.com/widget.php?shareID=wfc90d7400b40d6b30486a44fa19f5097&sharefrom=SewCalGal
Plus, LibraryThing offers an Early Reviewer program where you can get books to review for free! And they have hundreds of member giveaways each month.
I know there are various utilities out there that perform this functionality. I’d love to hear feedback from anyone that has experience with LibraryThing or similar tools. But ultimately, I’m hoping more quilters will take time to load their quilting library into LibraryThing and also share reviews & rating via this tool. It really is a handy tool that I believe, if you don’t already have such a tool, you’ll like this one. I know I do. And it is free and easy to use!
