Fun Machine Embroidery Christmas Projects

I like to machine embroidery (ME) tea towels (lightweight dish towels) and include in baskets of homemade cookies, for gifts to neighbors and friends at Christmas.  I haven’t finished baking treats, but wanted to share insights on this fun ME project.

The beautiful “M” and “C” are from the Christmas Fonts collection, by CuteAlphabets.com and the cute little mouse is from Pixies Rule.   These ME designs stitched out very easily and with great quality, detail and fun.

Now I just need to bake some yummy cookies to go into the gift basket with this cute dish towel.

Guess the Designer Challenge Part 1 & Part 2

It has been a long time since I’ve held a Guess the Designer Challenge.  So, I feel like I should clarify how these work….
As one of my goals has been to increase my ability of recognizing designers by their quilting designs and styles, as well as research and learn about more designers, I thought it would be fun to hold a two part challenge where a photo(s) is posted and you get a chance to guess who the designer is.  When the correct guess is placed this post is updated (Part 2) sharing more insight about this designer.  And, the person that correctly guessed the designer gets recognized on the Guess the Designer Challenge page of my blog too!
So here is a photo of part of a quilt.  Can  you correctly guess the name of this designer?

Part Two

Greg Bryson (Flat Out Quilting) was the first to correctly guess this designer, based on the snippet of a photo of a quilt.  Greg is also now listed in the “Designer Challenge” page (aka Hall of Fame for being able to correctly guess designers by photos of their quilts).

This designer is the very talented Sarah Vedeler.  Sarah designed and  made this spectacular GO! Be Dazzeled Quilt.

This quilt also recently won First Place, at the International Quilt Festival Houston, in the Computer-Aided Machine Embroidery category of the 2010 “A World of Beauty”. This was the first time Sarah has entered a quilt in the IQA show. Congratulations to Sarah Vedeler!

GO! Be Dazzled was created with popular GO! designs cut out from the GO! Round Flower, GO! Funky Flower, GO! Star-2”, 3”, 4”, GO! Heart-2”, 3”, 4”, GO! Feathers, GO! Circle-2”, 3”, 5” and GO! Diamonds dies, which are all also compatible with the new GO! Baby™ Fabric Cutter, to make the beautiful quilt top. Sarah then embellished the motifs with her own artistry by adding computer-aided machine embroidery to complete her work of art.

Sarah Vedeler and AccuQuilt have partnered together on new designer GO! dies featuring Sarah’s Sparkle Tree collection and Stars collection. In addition, Sarah Vedeler Designs offers digitalized embroidery motifs to accompany the new dies. GO! fabric cutting dies as well as the GO! Baby™

Sneak Peek at what Santa is bringing me

Here is a sneak peek on what Santa is bringing me for Christmas.  But you have to promise to keep it a surprise!

I’ve been wanting some bent handle embroidery scissors for ages.  Santa ordered these 6″ Double-Curved Machine Embroidery and Long Arm Quilting Scissors from IHAN for me.

And, Santa knows how I want to learn new free-motion quilting techniques so he also ordered “Master machine Quilting DVD” by Susan Brubaker Knapp, from IHAN, for me too!

But I was a bit impulsive and couldn’t wait till Christmas morning and pulled out those curved scissors while doing some machine embroidery.  They work great, making it very easy to trim threads while in the hoop.  And for those that do longarm quilting, they’d also be a perfect tool for them too!

I can’t wait till Christmas to officially be able to open up and play with my Christmas gifts. I’m so excited. And I promise to act surprised Christmas morning, but I think Santa may be more surprised.  And of course, he’ll be pleasantly surprised as IHAN has such great prices too!

Plus, a little birdie just told me that IHAN is having free shipping, on US orders, thru December 5th.   Yes, this definitely makes Santa very happy.  Great products, prices, service and free shipping. Santa may not have to go out on a cold winter night to deliver packages this year.

Black Friday/Cyber Monday Holiday Shopping

Last year, about this time, I compiled a list of products that I thought would make great Christmas gifts.  This year, I decided to do some research on Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping for quilting, sewing and embroidery enthusiasts, as well as share insights on some products that I think would make great Christmas gifts.

I believe most everyone is aware that Black Friday (sometimes Green Friday) is a term used to refer to the point in the year where merchants typically feel they are now profitable and Cyber Monday is a day where online sales tend to be at their highest point of the year, at least in the US.  No matter what the definition is, this window tends to be the busiess shopping days of the year.  Unfortunately, I don’t have any Market Research to determine how this all applies to businesses focused on quilting, sewing or embroidery.  So, I set out to do some research on my own and much of this post shares insights with you about some Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales that you might be interested in.

Warning:  This is a long list, but I do think it is worthy of checking.  And, I’ve also included a list of my recommendations for Christmas gifts to quilting friends (or yourself).

Mock Cathedral Window Machine Embroidery Design, by KittyKitty Designs

KittyKitty Designs has a new video for their delightful Mock Cathedral Window Machine Embroidery design.  I do so love this design.  It stitches out beautifully.  And this new video is great.

KittyKitty Designs is owned by the very talented Teriann Shum.  She is a Graphics Arts Designer and an Embroidery Digitizer.  She has created many wonderful designs, and has many with a whimsical flair known as Pixies.     For her “Quiltingles” she has the Mock Cathedral Window design, and a newer Mock Card Trick that I’m looking forward to creating items with.

If you like to do machine embroidery, I do hope you’ll pop over to check out KittyKitty Designs

This is a fun place for those that love Machine Embroidery.  I also won a cool sewing machine lite from a recent giveaway at KittyKitty Designs.  Thank you Teriann!  But, even if I didn’t win this great giveaway, I have so much fun in this forum and learn so many tips, plus I am inspired by all Teriann creates!

GO! BeDazzled, by Sarah Vedeler

The GO! BeDazzled quilt, by Sarah Vedeler, is a spectacular quilt that is brilliantly designed, utilizing many AccuQuilt GO! applique dies.  This elaborate quilt design is clearly an heirloom quilt design, that will work well in a variety of color pallettes.  This is also the first and only machine embroidery (ME) software, that I am aware of, designed specifically for the AccuQuilt GO!.

While there are multiple ME designs for the AccuQuilt GO! applique dies used in this quilt, there are also a variety of ME designs for each die.    All digitized to perfection, as if every stitch was strategically placed by hand to create a spectacular ME applique design that truly dazzles!  Clearly, Sarah Vedeler Designs is a world class machine embroidery designer, that has an amazing expertise in using ME designs in quilting.  To clarify, there are many ME designers and ME users that combine ME with quilting, but I believe Sarah has raised the bar for those that combine quilting and ME work.

The GO! BeDazzled ME design colllection allows you a variety of options.  You could pursue using these amazing ME designs to create your own spectacular GO! BeDazzled quilt, which this collection includes instructions on how to pursue via a BOM approach.

The  instructions provide you requirements for fabric, as well as insights for different color pallettes.  Information is also provided for thread selection and stablizers.

When you approach making this quilt via a BOM method, each month you’ll create several dazzling quilt blocks with ME designs that use the AccuQuilt dies in a variety of layouts that can be done in one hoop for those with megahoops, or using a multihoop method for those with smaller hoops.

Each block is a spectacular piece of art

Using the BOM approach, before you know it, you’ll be using instructions provided to put all the blocks together and you’ll have your own GO! BeDazzled quilt of your own (or a very generous gift)..

If you do want to make the GO! Be Dazzled Quilt, or use all of the ME designs included in this set, you will need the following dies from AccuQuilt:
GO! Feathers
GO! Hearts
GO! Funky Flowers
GO! Round Flower
GO! Stars
GO! Circles

But do remember this design set can also create a variety of projects, for any of these dies or combinations.

Plus, another quilt option layout is provided for the GO! Be Dazzled Too! quilt that you could do as a BOM in six months.

I most always do my test stitchouts on a dishtowel, which also makes for a nice hostest gift. When I did my first stitchout of the GO! BeDazzled designs, you can see how the placement lines help walk you thru what AccuQuilt GO! applique piece needs to be laid down.
I also like to do test stitch outs to see how different colored threads and fabrics work.  In my first test, as shown, I really was picking unwanted scraps from my stash.  But I still thought the dish towel ended up looking really cute. And, I was very impressed with the detail of the ME design.  While I personally love the fabric and thread colors that are recommended for the GO! BeDazzled quilt, I can also visualize a large variety of color choices that will also make spectacular projects and eager to create more items using the GO! BeDazzled designs.

While these designs are based on AccuQuilt GO! designs, if you don’t have a GO! you could do that M word and “manually” cut out your applique shapes to work with this ME software.  But, you’ll have so much fun with this ME software that I’m sure you’ll want a GO! to go with it.

Stitching out the GO! BeDazzled ME designs is like every single stitch was strategically placed.  These designs had a minimal amount of jumps, no odd placement of any set of stitches.  Every stitch was excellent.  Ever break for a color change was appropriate and resulted in spectacular machine embroidery work.

The GO! BeDazzled machine embroidery design set is an amazing set of machine embroidery designs.  I highly encourage it.  And, if you are an ME designer that does not have an AccuQuilt and does not want to pursue getting one, keep in mind that there are many AccuQuilt GO! owners who are willing to provide cutting and kitting services for others.  So, email me, if you want a list of those willing to provide such a service (or if you want to be added to this list).

I hope you will GO! Be Dazzled with Sarah Vedelers amazing designs.  I highly recommend this ME design set.

Pixies Rule! Kitty Kitty Designs 10 year Anniversary & AccuQuilt giveaway

I have been looking for a patriotic machine embroidery (ME) design for a 4th of July project.  While searching, I popped by KittyKitty Designs, one of my favorite sources for great designs!   While I was looking around, I found some new items that caught my attention and I wanted to share insights for my ME friends.

You may recall a prior post where I shared insight about the Mock Cathedral Window design, by KittyKitty Designs, which I highly recommend.  Absolutely lovely design that stitched out perfectly.

Well, they now have a Mock Card Trick design and a great video too!  Oh, how I want to stitch this design out soon.  Don’t you?  Beautiful design, especially for quilters!

Plus, KittyKitty Designs has several excellent tutorial videos!
http://static.ning.com/socialnetworkmain/widgets/video/flvplayer/flvplayer.swf?v=201006161005

And, of course, I fell in love with their new “Hummingbird Dance” design set.  Absolutely beautiful. I am truly amazed that this “set”, which includes six designs, and comes in various file formats and sizes, is only $10 for the entire set.  If I hadn’t previously stitched out KittyKitty Designs, I’d truly be skeptical.  But as I was so happy with the quality of the stitch out of their Cathedral Window design, I’m confident these cute hummers will stitch out beautiful.

Ok. While I didn’t find a design for my 4th of July project, I am now excited about stitching out more cute projects using KittyKitty designs..  And, I wanted to recommend that you also check out KittyKitty designs to see if there are any ME designs that catch your eye.  They have many wonderful ME designs and excellent tutorials!

KittyKitty designs also has a chat forum that is quite fun.  There are various chat topics, including “Bernina”, “Pfaff”, “Brother & Babylock”, and “Janome” lovers, as well as many more chat topics.. And, to my delight, when I checked the chat forum I learned that KittyKitty Designs is celebrating their 10th Anniversary with a giveaway!  Yes, a giveaway that you may want to enter and maybe win!
