Cozy Up to the New Year with Cozy Quilt Designs – Giveaway

I love the idea of cuddling up with a new quilt to start the New Year off.  And even better if it is made with a cute pattern from Cozy Quilt Designs.  While you may be lucky enough to have a new quilt to cuddle up in to welcome in 2011, I’m happy that Daniela from Cozy Quilts is sponsoring this giveaway, to help eleven (11) lucky winners create new quilts – all with new designs from Cozy Quilt Designs.  But before I share the details on this generous giveaway, I want to share a bit about Cozy Quilt Shop and Cozy Quilt Designs.

Cozy Quilt Shop is one of Southern California’s premier quilt shops, located in El Cajon, California.  It is definitely a quilt shop that I hope all quilters have a chance to visit some day (hopefully sooner than later). Their staff is one of the friendliest and knowledgeable that I’ve seen.  The shop is full of beautiful fabrics, with new fabrics coming in all the time.  They have an excellent source of books, patterns and notions.  And wonderful classes, as well as many other reasons to visit.

The first Saturday of each month Cozy Quilt Shop hosts “Fat Quarters Anonymous” (FQA).  Tomorrow, January lst, after FQA Sharyn Craig will be revealing a new block of the month program, where kits will be available in four different color waves all at extremely reasonable prices. The 2nd Saturday of each month Cozy hosts “Strip Club”.  There is always sharing and great fun at FQA and Strip Club meetings.

Cozy Quilt Designs is the design house which creates beautiful quilt patterns and quilt books, all with great visuals and clearly written instructions.  I continually hear people amazed that their patterns typically include insights to make quilts in not just one or two sizes, but  a large variety of sizes (e.g. Baby/Crib,  table runner, throw, twin, queen, king), as appropropriate for the design.  Thus making their patterns offer more ways to use them and they are very reasonable priced too.

Today is the last day of 2010, which means today is also the last day that you can order items from the Patchwork Party.  Cozy Quilt Shop will no longer be selling kits to the beautiful Waring Square.

They also have the Market Square finishing  kit currently available to make this spectacular quilt top with beautiful settings.

Cozy Quilt Designs has been busy in 2010, creating wonderful products for us quilters.  In 2010 they published two great new books (Fat Quarters Anonymous and Layer Em Up 3), Sharyn Craig’s terrific new ruler (Cutting Corners Ruler) and 25 new patterns!  Check out their Spring releases by clicking here and their Fall releases by clicking here

Snowman Quilt, by Pat Welsh

I love this Snowman Quilt design, by Pat Welsh.  It is from Stitchin’ Post in Sister’s Oregon.     Sadly, I’m not certain I’m going to have time to finish this quilt for this Christmas, so I thought I’d share the pattern with you.   There are many delightful quilts with snowman designs, but I liked the ability to do some threadplay with this particular design.  Possibilities are endless!

Pat Welsh will also be teaching a seminar, for Sulky, on March 11th where I’m sure those that are lucky enough to take her class will enjoy learning from Pat.  I’d love to be able to take a class from her!

Cat Week: Can you find your muse in a quilt store?

While looking for my muse, I’m definitely drawn to cats.  I went to Quilter’s Paradise, in Escondido, to see if I could find my muse.

Quilter’s Paradise has some delight “Garden Patch” Kits with really cute designs created by Helen Knoff.  They have a Avocatao Kit,Walla Walla Kitty Kit, Stalker Kat, Pumpkat Kit, Podcats kit, Kitney Bean Kits, Caulipus Kits, and Boscat Kits.  All the kits are also accurate cut via a laser cutter.

Each kit is  $15.99, includes pattern & fabric.   Finished size (including border) is 18″ x 18″.

Quilter’s Paradise uses this amazing laser to make these kits.  This laser is made by Epilog Laser, and has the ability to cut many other items besides fabric.  While Quilter’s Paradise uses this laser to cut kits for the Garden Patch designs, and some McKenna Ryan designs, they also use this laser to cut acryllic for bottoms of purses & totes, and to engrave on wood.  And they can cut on heavy stock paper, which works perfect for those doing applique, as well as those wanting stenciles to audition fabrics.  While they sell these products in their store, they are also providing wholesale laser cutting services.

The detail for what this laser can cut is absolutely amazing.  Kits come with pattern, fabric that is cut and iron on stablizers ready to apply precut fabrics.  How cool is that?

Quilter’s Paradise also has come up with this “CutRiteTM Square-Up” Template Set  which helps streamline the fussy cutting process.  While I’ve not used these templates, I was very impressed with the overview of these templates that I received at Quilter’s Paradise.  When ever I get a chance to actually use these interesting templates I’ll definitely share more insight with you.

And there was some really fun cat fabics at Quilter’s Paradise, among many other delightful fabrics.

And look at this cute panel fabric.  Too cute!

I hope you’ll get a chance to visit Quilter’s Paradise soon, either by popping into their physical store, or checking out their online store.

Patriotic Uncle Sam

Pearl P. Pereira Designs (P3 Designs) has a delightful design for a Patriotic Uncle Sam.  Her instructions are very easy to follow.  Actually, this is a great project for a beginner quilter.
I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I’ve started this quilt, but haven’t yet finished it.  It would have been a lovely quilt to proudly display today.  I’m not sure what my excuse is, but I still wanted to share insights about this lovely quilt.
Hopefully you’ll join me in making this beautiful quilt wall hanging.
While we can display this patriotic quilt anytime, it is a perfect quilt to proudly display on 9-11, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and many other days throughout the year.
Pearl’s  Uncle Sam is the third of a series of welcome quilts. The pieces are quite large, which make preparation of the appliqué pieces easier. Good project for hand or machine appliqué.

Finished size: 28″ x 63″.

Let us never forget 9-11.  There are so many ways to show our patriotic spirit and our American strength and compasion.  I hope we always look for opportunities to be strong, help others, fight for Freedom, and be compasionate.  I realize we’ve not always done so, but I’m hopeful that the world can heal and we can all reach out to “stitch” the world back together for peace and prosperity.
